OVERVIEW

This is a lino cut project where a design was carved into a surface and transferred using ink onto various collaterals, exploring the fundamentals of printmaking. As part of my coursework, I experimented with lino printing learning the tools, sourcing materials, and understanding the process eventually developing a refined, print-ready block for transferring the design onto various surfaces using ink.

The pattern features a floral snake composition, which is why I called it Slither Hidden in the Bushes. I first developed the design digitally in Photoshop and illustrated it before inverting it for the printmaking process.

MATERIAL

The image in left is the lino block in which usaully transferred my design onto the surface by pressing ethanol treated paper onto the lino block and letting it set for a while. The design was then carved in reverse, where I removed the unwanted areas from the block.

This way, only the raised (uncarved) sections would hold ink when rolled over the surface. During printing, these raised areas made contact with the paper, while the carved sections remained blank, forming the final image.

MEDIUMS

Experimenting with different coloured inks on the lino block and printing across a variety of surfaces was an exciting process. The outcomes were engaging and well received, and I was even able to sell a few pieces.
